How are our global causes affected by our money and time?

We are living in a world that is vibrant, rich and beautiful. We are also living in a world that is poor, devastating and chaotic. We would only be living half a life if we chose to see the one and not the other.

While we take for granted what is vibrant, rich and beautiful, we felt, in the past, that we have not given enough back in return.

Many ancient cultures gave back to Nature what they took. Aspects of our modern lives have forgotten that no man is an island and without Nature, we will die.

We want to leave a world that is vibrant, rich and beautiful for our children.

Not only is the air, mountains, rivers and oceans part of Nature, so are human beings, and every other living organism on this planet.

For these reasons, part of our money goes to projects that help sustain Nature with its conflict against a modern culture that seems to forget that we need to be a team to survive.

Global causes that we are presently supporting

Avaaz

Avaaz is a global web movement to bring people-powered politics to decision-making everywhere.

Malala's Dream - OCTOBER 2012

When 15-year old Malala Yousafzai was shot by the Taliban, the world was outraged. In response, nearly 1 million of us called on the Pakistani government to fulfill her dream of education for all by supporting a national stipend programme to put all of Pakistan’s poor children in school. The UN Education Envoy Gordon Brown delivered our petition directly to Pakistani President Zardari, who signed it himself! On that very day, a month after Malala was shot, the Pakistani government officially launched a stipend programme for 3 million children.

Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra - MARCH 2013

As a global citizen, I urge you to ban all ivory trade in Thailand. I find it shocking that Thailand -- the host of the UN summit on endangered species -- is also the world’s largest unregulated ivory market and a top driver of the illegal trade. Criminals smuggle in illegally obtained African ivory, mix it in with legal Thai sources so no one can tell them apart, then get away with selling it on the open market. You can stop this by banning the Thai ivory trade now.

Stop the whale massacre - MAY 2013

To Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and State Secretary for Economic Affairs Sharon Dijksma:

As a signatory to the International Convention to Regulate Whaling, we call on you to immediately prohibit the transit of whale meat through Dutch ports and to help end the global trade in whales. Your decision will set a precedent that could save the Fin whales and help stop whaling in Europe.

Avaaz donation - JULY 2013

A 2012 study by Professor Gilles-Eric Séralini’s team at the University of Caen, France showed that eating GM maize and low doses of the Roundup herbicide (glyphosate) with which it is grown damaged the health of rats over the long term. Other studies on GM foods also show toxic effects.

GMO supporters, big agriculture and many others say that this study is inconclusive.

Those bulging tumours look very conclusive. This is why we need proper, transparent, long term and independent studies to be done to accurately determine the effects of GM foods and their associated chemicals.

Jumbo Foundation

Jumbo Foundation Elephant Orphanage
Your continued support of this website goes a very long way to keeping our animal world as beautiful, and alive, as you are.

A volunteer making bricks for the new elephant barn. Behind the volunteer, you can see all the bricks that have already been made. This is our machine that we loaned to Jumbo for the purpose of making bricks for the new barn.

If you would like to, you can view more pictures here (Jumbo Facebook Photo album).

Our global causes, such as these, are having real life and visible effects to our world. Support us and these wonderful volunteers that are putting their "muscle" behind their words.

Cancer awareness

Run for Cancer

We did it in 2012 and 2013 and we will keep on doing it.

This event attracts approximately 84,000 participants throughout Europe - apparently, the largest women's sporting event in Europe.

Fuel efficient Stoves in Malawi to Enhance our Global Causes

In April 2013, we bought all our farm staff in Malawi these fuel efficient stoves.

Take a few minutes to watch the video and see the benefits of these stoves for yourself.

Corporate irresponsibility

Stop Coca-Cola trashing Australia

Coca-Cola is running a misinformation campaign against the ‘Cash for Containers’ scheme and are taking the Northern Territory Government to court for introducing this proven and popular recycling scheme (also known as the Container Deposit Scheme).

The company is telling the public - through social media and elsewhere - that the scheme is an expensive and ineffective tax.

The facts are :

  • ‘Cash for Containers’ is the only scheme globally proven to increase recycling rates. In fact, recycling rates for drink containers in South Australia are almost double those across the rest of the country.
  • It is not a tax. It is a fully refundable deposit.
  • Drink containers - like the ones Coca-Cola use to sell their drinks - make up nearly half of all litter in the environment, as estimated by Clean Up Australia.
  • Container refunds could earn the community service sector as much as $60 million every year to re-invest into communities.

Already tens of thousands of Australians have gotten behind the campaign to protect wildlife, and keep rubbish out of the oceans and off the beaches.

"Don’t swallow Coca-Cola’s garbage: help stamp out the misinformation today" - Greenpeace

These global causes are important  What happens in Australia will have an impact on our environment throughout the world.

Please share this to add pressure to the Coca-Cola bosses to come clean and take responsibility for their products packaging.

Plastic is an amazing discovery and has made a powerful impact in our lives. But its power is not restricted to its convenience, it is also an effective environment killer and humans are the only ones that can take responsibility for that.

Debt creation

We are against the creation of debt when there is no immediate, direct and real long term benefit for the specific individual. There is nothing more demoralising for an ordinary human being than being in debt without sustainable and wholesome benefit.

People kill themselves because of it. Why on earth would we want to support debt?

EWG's - Skin Deep Database

The U.S. government doesn't review the safety of products before they're sold. EWG's staff scientists compare the ingredients on personal care product labels and websites to information in nearly 60 toxicity and regulatory databases.

Environmental Working Group (EWG), based in the USA, uses the power of information to protect human health and the environment. EWG's Skin Deep database provides practical solutions to protect yourself and your family from everyday exposures to chemicals.

Even though we do not live in the USA and, as a consumer, we are not exposed to the same chemicals as American consumers are, we still donate money to this organisation. The reason is simple ... global causes are slower to create but more effective in the long run.

Why? Because global organisations use the "divide and rule" principle to restrict alliances from being created that may grow to oppose them. Global alliances are far more powerful against global corporates than domestic alliances are.

It is well known that global corporates use different ingredients in different countries for the same products - Johnson and Johnson Baby Shampoo is an example. How can the same company have 2 different philosophies?

Skin Deep Mobile App

EWG is working on a mobile app project that will let you scan products as you shop, instantly giving you a safety score. This app will take the guesswork, misleading labelling and advertising, and the distraction out of cosmetic shopping so that you get the safest product every time.

Not everyone may agree with what we do, and we respect that. We enjoy our global causes and the positive impact, that we think, it brings in their own little ways.

And we will keep doing them so that we hopefully leave a better world for our children to inherit.
